WRAP (Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production)
WRAP certifies factories, not brands or products, against 12 principles covering legal compliance, working conditions and workers' rights. More than 4,000 facilities hold the certification. Every brand on this page makes products in WRAP certified facilities, which we confirm before listing.

Here's what WRAP certification actually means
WRAP certification applies to a single production facility. A factory is audited by an independent monitoring firm accredited by WRAP and corrects any problems found, which are re-inspected, before WRAP staff and an independent review board approve it.
Most facilities hold Gold certification, which lasts one year before a new audit. Facilities with three consecutive audits that need no corrective action can reach Platinum, valid for two years. Certified facilities can also receive random, unannounced audits, and failing one can cost them the certification.
The protections are specific. The forced labour principle bans worker-paid recruitment fees, debt bondage and withheld travel documents; the pay principle requires legally mandated wages, overtime premiums, benefits and social insurance, paid on time; and every facility must run an effective grievance mechanism. Anything an audit finds has to be fixed and re-inspected before certification is granted.
The 12 WRAP Principles at a glance
| Principle | What it means in practice |
|---|---|
| Compliance with laws | Follow labour, ethics and environmental laws wherever the facility operates |
| No forced labour | Voluntary work only, with no worker-paid recruitment fees, debt bondage or withheld documents |
| No child labour | No one under the legal minimum age, or under 15 (14 in some countries) |
| No harassment or abuse | A workplace free of harassment, abuse and corporal punishment |
| Compensation and benefits | At least legally required wages, overtime premiums and benefits, paid on time |
| Hours of work | Legal working hours and at least one day off in seven |
| No discrimination | Employment decisions based on ability to do the job |
| Health and safety | A safe, clean workplace, with safe housing where housing is provided |
| Freedom of association | Workers may join associations and bargain collectively, with a grievance mechanism |
| Environment | Follow environmental law and reduce waste and impact |
| Customs compliance | Follow customs law and label goods accurately |
| Security | Controls to keep unmanifested cargo out of shipments |
Why this all matters
Most of what we wear is sewn in factories that shoppers will never see. Certification at the factory level makes those workplaces visible and puts them under regular, independent review.
WRAP's principles cover the protections every worker is owed: voluntary work with no debt or recruitment fees, a minimum working age, a workplace free of harassment, safe conditions, pay on time and the right to organise. They are checked in person, renewed every year and can be re-checked without warning.
Buying from brands that use certified factories rewards manufacturers for keeping those protections in place.

About WRAP certification
How does WRAP compare with fair trade certifications?
WRAP certifies the factory itself rather than a product or a trading relationship. Its 12 principles cover many of the worker protections at the heart of fair trade, including no forced or child labour, no harassment or abuse, health and safety, and freedom of association, and it checks them with independent audits, a review board and unannounced visits. It doesn't set minimum prices or premiums, which some fair trade schemes do.
What do WRAP Gold and Platinum mean?
Gold is awarded for full compliance with the 12 principles and lasts one year. Platinum goes to facilities with three consecutive audits that needed no corrective action, and lasts two years. Most certified facilities hold Gold.
How does The Labour Movement check WRAP claims?
We confirm a brand's current WRAP status before it's listed and ask for supporting documents where we need them. Every brand is also vetted against our own fair trade standards and reviewed each year, because a certification is a strong signal but not a substitute for ongoing checks.
