Alegria Accessories exists to create safe, living-wage jobs for young women in Honduras, with a goal of 30 such jobs by 2030.
The story
Alegria Accessories began in January 2021, after its founder lost a 23-year career during the pandemic. The founder's parents had been missionaries at Faith Home, a children's home in Honduras, and three young women aging out of the home agreed to start making jewelry part time on the manager's back porch.
Today six women work full time as artisans in Honduras, supported by two staff in the United States. Alegria's stated goal is 30 safe, living-wage jobs for women by 2030.
The jewelry pairs beads, crystals and natural stones such as agate and amazonite with wire-wrapped metal and macramé cord. Alegria is a member of the Fair Trade Federation.
