Deux Mains creates good jobs for women in Haiti, with living wages, health insurance and dignified work.

The story

Julie Colombino-Billingham went to Haiti after the 2010 earthquake and founded the nonprofit REBUILD Globally, which incubated Deux Mains as a for-profit brand in 2015. It began with sandals made from discarded tires and grew into a full line of bags and accessories.

Products are handmade at a solar-powered workshop in Port-au-Prince, where artisans earn living wages and receive health insurance. In 2018 the brand described itself as employee-owned, with Colombino co-owning it alongside her Haitian colleagues, and said about 97% of its raw materials came from Haiti.

Deux Mains describes itself as a women-owned fair trade brand. It is a member of the Fair Trade Federation.
