Each sculpture is hand-cut from recycled 55-gallon steel oil drums using traditional Haitian metalworking techniques. After the drum is cleaned by fire, it is flattened into a metal canvas where the design is drawn, cut, and textured by hand using hammer and chisel. The result is a unique piece of Haitian folk art with intricate patterns and expressive forms.
Finished with a protective weather-resistant coating, this sculpture can be displayed indoors or outdoors. For outdoor display, applying a clear spray enamel once a year will help maintain the finish. Produced following fair trade practices that support Haitian artisans and their communities.
