MIKI is crafted from Japanese Zelkova wood, specially sourced through Japan’s domestic timber market for wood traditionally used in the construction of shrines and temples. Because of its important role in traditional Japanese architecture, high-quality Zelkova suitable for crafting the MIKI Clock is limited and carefully selected.
Japanese Zelkova is a hard, durable wood distinguished by its beautiful natural grain and distinctive growth rings. The varied patterns and appearance of each piece reflect the age of the tree and the environment in which it grew, making every clock subtly unique. The surface is carefully polished to reveal the warmth and natural character of the wood.
Zelkova has long been valued in Japanese architecture. Kyoto’s Kiyomizu-dera, a UNESCO World Heritage Site founded in 778, is renowned for its extensive use of Zelkova in its historic wooden structures.
MIKI can be displayed as a wall clock or converted into a table clock with its removable stand.
**MIKI Urushi Suki**
*Urushi* means “lacquer” in Japanese and refers to the traditional Japanese lacquer made from the sap of the urushi tree. The MIKI Urushi Suki is finished by skilled lacquerware craftsmen using traditional Japanese lacquer techniques. The rich lacquer finish enhances the natural form of the Zelkova while giving the clock a sophisticated depth and refined presence.
An exceptional expression of Japanese craftsmanship, MIKI Urushi Suki brings together precious natural wood, traditional lacquer artistry, and contemporary timepiece design to create a luxurious yet understated accent for any interior.
