Beldi glass became a genuine Moroccan institution in 1946 as the tea glass used by all Moroccan families. Mouth blown from recycled glass, it is recognizable due to it small elements of puffiness that allow people to grab it with no risk of burn, and to store it in cafes on the iron racks. Produced in a 100% recycled glass factory in Marrakech, our collection is heated, blown and hand shaped then soaked in a progressive cooling furnace. The result is an extremely resistant material and elegant design that is suitable to withstand everyday life. The green reflection of the glass comes from the recycled glass components used for the making. In Morocco, people often use the word, beldi. It is used for a variety of everyday items and foods, i.e., beldi eggs, beldi tiles, beldi chicken, beldi soda, beldi vegetables, and naturally beldi glasses. This endearing term is hardly translatable but to the locals means traditional, handmade and local. The word beldi is in contrast to the adjective room, which would is suggestive of something modern and industrial, with know traditional origin or basis tied to the Moroccan handmade know-how. Beldi glassware is entirely made by hand, and minor imperfections are intrinsically part of the design, make the beauty and remind us the rich artisan skills of the beautiful country of Morocco.
