The story
Jess and Ben Wiederholt founded Crazy Love Africa in 2014 with Bright Herbert, starting with support for a few mothers in Uganda. The nonprofit is led from Denver, Colorado, with a team based in Fort Portal, Uganda.
Women in cooperatives across Uganda make its fabric animals, paper bead jewelry, baskets, bags and ornaments. Crazy Love Africa also gives micro-business grants that have helped women start sewing shops, small farms and local shops.
Its programs pair the cooperatives with skills training and community support. Crazy Love Africa is a member of the Fair Trade Federation.

Who makes Crazy Love Africa products?
Women in cooperatives across Uganda, supported by the organization's team in Fort Portal.
What are paper beads?
Beads rolled by hand from long strips of paper, then sealed and polished. Each strip becomes one bead, so sizes and colors vary slightly from bead to bead.
